The program will be held in a private house in Point Richmond overlooking the Bay.
Leveraging Your Influence is a mutually supportive learning community, co-created by Miki and participants to integrate the consciousness of NVC more deeply, more spontaneously, and more authentically into our everyday language and lives.
The vision of the program is to leverage our influence by using NVC as the organizing principle of our work in the world. In our once-a-month, day-long meetings we deepen into our ability to express the consciousness and principles of NVC in our own natural language in our unique life experiences.
Rather than teaching specific NVC skills, we focus on real-life situations in which using NVC can move us and our environment closer to the dream of a needs-based world.
We start with where we are, by inspiring others, by transforming conflict into mutual understanding, and by forging connections and alliances through our shared human needs.
We ask, “How can we live NVC so fully that all the people we meet each day are affected by its profound gifts? How do we infuse our work and play so that NVC consciousness becomes the common denominator in all our relationships?”
We are excited to imagine a world like this! A world in which each of us could act in the sacred role of the midwife and help bring greater NVC presence to all the areas of our life.
The LYI participants have a range of NVC experience. Very experienced NVC practitioners and trainers are eager to naturalize their use of NVC. Other participants have less formal NVC training or experience mixed with a deep appreciation of NVC consciousness and some familiarity with the tools.
The experience of each gathering is co-created by Miki and all the participants. In her role as leader, Miki’s skill and experience generate trust and safety. She models her vision of collaborative leadership, which allows her to occasionally function as a member. She engages with the group to understand the emerging needs of participants in real time and harnesses that energy to deepen the consciousness of NVC in all present.
Participants contribute real-life issues and a radical level of vulnerability around issues of tuition, money, inclusion, learning goals, shared leadership, feedback, commitment and radical honesty.
In LYI we explore the extent to which we can create a community of mutual understanding and shared human needs. We support each other in manifesting this dream together while supporting each of us to become a resource to those around us and the world!
We hold no limit on what we can create together. We might just become that small group of individuals that Margaret Mead refers to in her famous quote: “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.”
Miki Kashtan, certified NVC trainer, is a founder of Bay Area Nonviolent Communication and the North America Leadership Program. She is inspired by the role of visionary leadership in shaping a livable future, and works toward that vision by sharing the principles and practices of Nonviolent Communication through mediation, meeting facilitation, coaching, consulting, and training for organizations and for committed individuals.
Miki hosts the Conflict Hotline TV show, and blogs at the Fearless Heart and on Psychology Today. Her articles have appeared in Tikkun magazine and elsewhere.

|Requested Experience:||Program open to all.|
|Requested Contribution:||$400 Deposit Requested. This program continues as an experiment in a semi-gift-economy basis. We have had some incredible conversations in which we broke some of the taboos about money in our work together. We worked with the shame that so many of us have about money, and found connection around finding ways for everyone to participate and for BayNVC to thrive. |
Each person who joins can choose how much they want to contribute, with the hoped for contribution being at least $1,600 for the program. We encourage all participants to commit for the entire 12 months. However, the enrollment for this program will stay open throughout 2013, and if you want to join us later, you can contribute on a pro-active basis.
If you are called to join this thriving community and have no funds available at all to you, please be in touch and we will engage with you to see with the aim of finding creative ways of including you.
